VANCOUVER - The Saskatchewan Roughriders shut out the noise and ignored history to upset the B.C. Lions 26-17 in Sunday’s CFL West Division final to earn their first trip to the Grey Cup in a decade.
The ‘Riders weren’t intimidated by the thunderous roar of 54,172 fans at B.C. Place Stadium or haunted by two previous losses to the Lions in the West Final.
Saskatchewan scored 16 points off four turnovers and quarterback Kerry Joseph threw two touchdown passes to end the Lions hopes of repeating as Grey Cup champions.
“There’s a great feeling of joy right now,” said Joseph, who completed 18 of 35 passes for 209 yards plus ran for 43 more. “Nobody gave us a chance to come in here with the crowd noise.
