Kitco Refugee Relief…….

Ferret…………Yeah, but the Fed, I mean the groups from…

…..the Caymen Islands are printing and paying off the Fed debt, anyhow, so why not just pay down some for individual’s loans, too…….just to take the pressure off cause they’d pizz the same amount away on spending in the meantime.  Let’s call it, “Resurgence Of The Consumer 101.”

PMF, they could do that, but do you think that would make it easier for people to pay off the remaining amounts?

It would ease the interest burden by 20%, which is what the Fed is trying to do anyway (the last rate cut was 17.6%), but it might only encourage them not to pay down anything if somebody is just going to come along and pay it for them.

One advantage of the tax break is that it isn’t actually a hand-out - people pay less.  Might be politically more acceptable.  And it will have an immediate impact.

Ferret……….How about some anonymous group………

…..out of the Caymens just happens to pay off 20 percent of the loans across the board (deferred, of course, for a couple of years, but guaranteed) with no payments due for a couple of years?  They can always claim a couple of years down the line that the Caymen’s group went belly-up……..or would that be belly-down, down-under?

“Are you familiar with or have you had experience with the “Hoxsey” treatment by chance? ”

I have seen video presentations of the Hoxsey clinic in Mexico, and the outrageous treatment he received from the government and medical community in the US.  It seems to have had some very good success with cancer.  I don’t know a lot about the details of the treatment, though.

If the credit system has seized up because of uncertainty over the value of mortgages, then if those mortgages start being paid off their value is less doubtful and the crunch should ease.  Their values will rise, they will become more tradeable, and there will be more cash in the financial system thereby increasing liquidity.  Consumer spending would suffer though.

Ferret @ 22:50 pm

“to get folk to actually pay down the mortgage, it would put liquidity back into the system,”

Please explain, I cannot get my mind around this.

its_real (22:46) Dont give up. Grasshopper populations ebb and flow. But placer gold keeps accumulating in the gravel bars slowly. Cheers.

AuGirl, thanks for the heads-up on Longview Capital Partners.

That is not one I have been following.  But thanks for your mention today I like what I have found so far in some research done today.  In terms of business plan, if not portfolio structure, LV  gives me the impression of a miniature version of Pinetree Capital (PNP).  I guess I said the same thing about Altius (ALS) the other day too.  Oh well, I suppose one could do a lot worse than having positions in PNP, ALS and LV.   Will let you know when I get onboard LV.  Cheers.  Equiz.

Hi Ferret

I agree the GOV needs to do more to address the loan specifics like tax credit or some other relief.  I don’t think the fed will do 50bp, but it is the consensus.  No mater, i don’t think that alone will give any relief to mortgage rates.  This is just a correction the housing market cannot avoid; we need to take a lumps and move on IMO.

Shanghai down over 5%. China’s first bust gathering momentum?

Gold is popping nicely…..up 6 bucks now

soee 22.28, I’ll go for another 50bp

If they want to avoid deflation, they need to make mortgages more affordable, so when the resets come round people can still meet the payments.  Personally I doubt that they will succeed in bringing actual mortgage rates down by cutting their funds rate, but they’ve got to try.  Next thing is to get folk to actually pay down the mortgage.  So introduce full tax relief on the whole payment, interest and capital, for all loans originally taken out prior to jan 1st 2008, say, such relief carrying over to any re-negotiated loan.  If this worked at all, it would put liquidity back into the system, maybe bringing rates down slightly more, and reducing the risk premium attached to mortgages.

I know you have nothing against ( us) old-timers. As you know, it is very peaceful along the riverside. BTW, I don’t know if we will garden this year, as for the past 4 years our garden has been brown. Not a single plant could grow, and all our fruit trees have been defoliated. It is because of grasshoppers. Don’t even have to mow. The native plants survive; except knapweed, which is not native.
