Thanks for all the info you posted today. With just having joined the tent 6 short months ago I still have a lot of information to catch up on. Keep the knowledge coming my friend.

I only wish I would have know all about this car wreck we call an economy sooner. I would have loved to have more time to invest properly for what lies ahead in the future.

Warmest Regards,

Dr. J

Manitoba gold rush is on — let the drilling begin

Wed Feb 13 2008

By Martin Cash

STEPHEN Mlot is not happy about the way the markets are treating junior mining companies these days, but he is very happy about the price of gold.

Mlot is president and CEO of Carlisle Goldfields Ltd., a Toronto-based gold exploration company that has just started a new phase of drilling at its MacLellan gold project near Lynn Lake. The company has enough cash to do its current round of drill samples, but Mlot said it would likely need to raise $15 million to $20 million to undertake the next round of underground drilling in preparation for its goal — to reopen the MacLellan mine, which has been closed since 1989.

Even though Carlisle’s shares have been flat, closing up a penny to 18 cents on Tuesday, Mlot and others remain enthusiastic about gold exploration in Manitoba because of the hoped-for bump the junior mining companies could get if prices for the soft luxury metal remain strong, as many predict they will.

Some analysts say that since the major gold producers like Barrick Gold Corp. and Kinross Gold Corp. have seen their stock prices rise sharply over the last six months, investors will eventually start to look for bargains in the juniors.

“At some point, investors will say the large gold companies are too expensive and that there is a better bang for their buck from the junior companies,” said Mlot, who was in Winnipeg Tuesday speaking to investors and potential investors. “When the sentiment moves away from the major companies, it will return to the juniors.” Gold prices on the New York Mercantile Exchange closed down US$15.50 to US$907.40 an ounce on Tuesday.

The average cost of mining an ounce of gold around the world is about $350. Old gold-producing properties like the Bissett mine now operated by San Gold, and MacLellan mine in Lynn Lake, were shut down when gold prices were too low to sustain the cost of production.

Now that the price has come back, general uncertainty in the financial markets has probably stalled the flow of capital that might otherwise have been attracted to the search for the yellow metal.

Not only have the volatility of financial markets and the tightened credit markets disrupted potential capital attraction, but geopolitical and regulatory conditions in regions around the world have made supply scarcer than should be the case.

David Stein, an analyst with Cormark Securities in Toronto, said: “Back in 2001, if you talked to me about $500 per ounce, let alone $900 per ounce, I would have though a lot of big mines would be in production by now, but they are not.”

Stein said he believes a company like San Gold will eventually be able to benefit from the market, but it has to be patient. San Gold, which opened the old Harmony gold mine in Bissett in 2006, expects to produce 50,000 ounces of gold in 2008 and get that up to close to 150,000 ounces by 2010.

With those volumes, it would be among the top 10 producers in Canada.

Also, San Gold recently released some promising drill results on an exploration project 1.5 kilometres from its mine. Still, the company’s shares trade in a tight range, closing down five cents to $1.35 on Tuesday.\

Though the province does not keep track of exploration by type of mineral sought, mining companies are expected to spend about $100 million in Manitoba in 2008, double what was spent in 2007 and four times the total of only five years ago.

As one analyst said, while mines in places like Russia and several South American countries are getting hung up in regulatory delays, Manitoba has been rated the No. 1 jurisdiction in the world for the mining industry and a temporarily unco-operative market isn’t slowing that down.

It’s the province’s golden era

With gold trading for more than $900 an ounce, there is more gold exploration in Manitoba these days than anyone can remember. Here’s where the action is:

San Gold Corp. (SGR) — Currently the only gold producer in the province, the Bissett-area mine is forecasting production of 50,000 ounces this year and up to 150,000 ounces by 2010. Additional exploration is going on, with promising results 1.5 kilometres from its mine.Carlisle Goldfields Ltd. (CGJ) — Extensive exploration is ongoing in the hopes of reopening the MacLellan gold mine near Lynn Lake that has been closed since 1989. Company officials are working on a feasibility study, and a resource estimate report is expected within weeks.

Garson Gold Corp. (GG) — Garson is doing exploration towards reopening the New Britannia Mine, which operated from 1949 to 1958 and again from 1995 to 2004. New drill results were announced Tuesday. Some say it could be the province’s next producing gold mine.

Harvest Gold Corp. (HVG) — One of a handful of junior exploration companies drilling on properties in and around San Gold’s Bissett mine.

Rolling Rock Resources Corp. (RLL) — Just started a winter drilling project at its Domain property 15 kilometres east of Oxford House in northern Manitoba.

Black Pearl Minerals Consolidated Inc. (BLK) — Active on a property called Gold Dust Zone near Snow Lake.

Puma Exploration Inc. (PUM) — This Quebec-based company is working a possible gold property near Little Stull Lake in the God’s Lake region of northeast Manitoba.

You summed up the situation very nicely.

There is indeed a unique quality found under the tent which is very rare.

You are of course a key factor in that pursuit.  Congrats to you!

THE case for an interest rate rise next month has been effectively sealed, as the unemployment number dropped to a 33-year low.

The jobless rate for January plunged to 4.1 per cent, which economists said was the lowest since November 1974.

I agree, if the $A craters with China downturn or whatever watch out, but this little lady has not only the property and bank shares(! dividends) she has let slip with a few vinos under the belt, a few secret stashes in UK/Europe.

So I suspect when one side of the ledger is down, the other side goes up?

No gold yet that she let’s on about but we have discussed it. She was fascinated by the unlabelled 6yr gold chart I sent and asked “would she buy this stock” - she said “yes”.

cheers
