Thanks for your post, which I take to imply, “choose what to focus on”.
Thoughts are the beginning of the reality we create, so we might as well focus on the thoughts we prefer. That doesn’t necessarily mean everything will come up roses, only that we can get off the emotional roller-coaster. The best way I know of is through vipassana, which is a practice of taking on no new misery (cravings and aversions), by observing and taking intentional action vs. succumbing to knee-jerk reactions. Easier said than done, but a worthy pursuit. The carrot at the end of the rainbow is enlightenment, the ultimate pot of gold. We may not be able to stop negative thoughts from entering our minds, but we can practice just letting the negative ones pass on through without acting on them and focus on goodness.
