I was about ready to

post something that might be controversal…….instead, I think I will tell a joke.

Two blonds somewhere in the great midwest were enjoying a warm summer evening sitting beside the pool.

One turned to her friend and said, “Isn’t that moon beautiful ?…….Which do you think is the furtherst away, the moon or Florida?”

“Helloooooooooooo,” answered her friend

“Can you see Florida ???”

I saw some buying in a couple of names in the last half hour today. NAK and LIHR come to mind. Nothing special about the overall volume except that most of the volume came in late in the day and both were up nicely.

 Maybe good news ahead. :)

Uncontacted Amazon Tribe Sighted in Brazil Forest

May 30 (Bloomberg) — Brazil’s National Indian Foundation has discovered an Indian tribe in the Amazon that hasn’t had contact with civilization in a rare sighting of the few remaining original inhabitants of the area.

Funai, as the foundation is known, said in a statement that it spotted a group of Indians, six huts and a large planted area near the Envira River, close to the Peruvian border in the Brazilian state of Acre in the western Amazon rainforest. Funai doesn’t try to make contact with the Indians and prevents incursions by loggers to ensure their autonomy.

The sighting and the release of photographs by Funai reinforces the need for measures to protect the Amazon from loggers and developers, said David Hill, a researcher at Survival International, a London-based group that defends the rights of tribal people worldwide.

“These pictures are very important to convince governments and companies that isolated tribes do exist,” Hill said in an interview from London. “They also send a very clear message: Leave us alone, stay out.”

Photographs showing Indians pointing bows and arrows at a helicopter carrying a team of experts from Funai’s Ethno- Environmental Protection Front were published on the foundation’s Web site.

“The warriors that were photographed have a strong and healthy appearance,” Jose Carlos Meirelles Jr., the group’s coordinator, said in the statement.

Remote Area

The last photographs of tribes in the area, one of the most remote in the Amazon, were released about 20 years ago, Hill said. Funai officials said they believe there are about 500 Indians in the area where the photos were taken.

The foundation said it didn’t know which tribe the Indians belonged to. Meirelles added in the statement that the group has been monitoring four distinct and isolated tribes in that region for the past 20 years. There are about 40 uncontacted tribes in Brazil, Funai said.

There are more than 100 uncontacted tribes worldwide, with more than half living in Brazil or Peru, Hill said, adding they are in danger of being forced off their land, killed and decimated by diseases.

Consumer Sentiment worst in 28 years

……by Anthony Cherniawski, The Practical Investor, LLC
May 30, 2008

The University of Michigan/Reuters consumer sentiment index was released on Friday, showing the worst reading since 1980. It appears that the press has adopted the language used by the Federal Reserve that deflects blame for the condition away from their policies and puts it back on the consumer. They use the words “inflation expectations” to lay the blame for higher prices on consumers. Do you mean to tell me that there is no inflation, only inflation expectations? Give me a break!

sent1.gif

Inflation erased all the gains…

… in disposable personal income in April, while U.S. consumer spending was flat after adjusting for higher prices, according to the Commerce Department report on Friday. I don’t believe for a minute that consumer income kept up with inflation in April. Then there’s the statement, “Personal saving — DPI less personal outlays — was $75.0 billion in April, compared with $78.9 billion in March. Personal saving as a percentage of disposable personal income was 0.7 percent in April, the same percentage as in March.” No, it was down 5%! I like how they abuse their statistics.

The latest report from the FDIC is out…

…and the news may be worse that the headlines say. For example, fourth quarter bank earnings were restated from $5.8 billion to $646 million in the last three months. That’s an 89% adjustment to the previous earnings report and we haven’t heard of it until now? My, oh my! The bottom line for the FDIC is this, “”Insured Deposits increased by $150 billion, while the Deposit Insurance Fund increased by only $430 million.” Does this evoke any confidence in the FDIC’s ability to handle its liabilities? This might explain FDIC’s rush to rehire their former liquidation specialists from the 1980s.

Thanks, I have enough for the moment, but bought 3 more cans of mountain house from another source today. I was looking for the freeze dried cheeses but sold out everywhere I searched. I figure if I don’t use them for a just in case foods for, flood, tornados, earthquakes,..take this job and shove it scenaros. I can use them for traveling or camping anyways. You don’t have to check them every yr for expiration dates at least. Was in a earthquake once, it wasn’t fun. The three day supply they recomend most have, due to no electricity perishables go fast. But if you can’t just up and leave, you really need more than 3 days, since other things will be costly then and any food available, prices will sky rocket, things like candles, and maybe toilet paper and other hygine products will perish from the counters. Like earthquake, tidal waves, it may take jobs with it, and no source of income, and maybe no home. The earthquake in San Fernando I was in took 3 hospitals down among may buildings, Holy Cross, Olive View, and the Vetrans hosp. Holy Cross the only one that survived a bit, became a one story building I worked at occasionally in the 80s but was a 10 story building before the quake. Last I saw Kaiser, in that area still had the scars of it on their walls.  Now they have solar products. It never fails since Ive been here too power outages every summer and in the winter although usually brief you never know. Not a hard core survivalist expecting doom and gloom all the time, but if something does happen, wanta be a little more confortable.
