Thank you very much, ment, for your sermon/post to the Tent choir.  My guess is that more than a couple people here picked up on this story being a diversion from the ‘real’ news, but what isn’t mis- or dis-information or a diversion in the US news these days?  Some of us just take it for granted and can discern for ourselves what is important and what is entertaining.

My personal response to your comment/question is that although I posted the story, of course I don’t care about it as a primary focus, only as a sideshow for laughs, especially considering the so-called morality this guy and his buddies touted.  It’s only after-hours nonsense.  Yet I do find the changing of spots a curiosity, as evidenced by an event earlier this week which also seemed to interest you, despite its low level of overall importance as compared to molehills, for example.

If you don’t give a rat’s patootey about nonsense like this story, why the heck do you bother reading and commenting on such trash yourself?!  Another question might be, “who gives a rats what ment says”  Or what I say, or what anyone says, for that matter.  No need for anyone to answer, it’s rhetorical.

Sorry if there’s anyone else who didn’t appreciate my posting such nonessential pseudo-news.  Maybe we can do a poll to see if the majority wants to appoint ment17 to censor Tent postings and cull the unworthy ones, lol.

Was out for awhile, and got a new mouse too finally. Thanks for summing up that conflict of a lot of information on the subject. We need to stay out of other peoples buisness less they ask for help. Since Bushmaster has been in office there has been one war after another. Now 1000’s dead, injured or displaced. Along time ago I posted a site about comming disasters. On it they showed a picture of Hitler and Bush. Below it said, Same shit, different person, or something like that. It was posted out of Germany.

You have been around the oil patch…..much like I have been around the ag sector…seen a lot of changes…We have seen many ups and downs. The ones that are serious about any investment or business….are the ones that don’t get too depressed about the lows or too euphoric about the highs…..Just stay in the game. I tend to approach the pm sector in much the same way as I have in my business life….and I’m sure you do the same…..You’ve gotta stay the coarse.We may be 5oo miles apart…but we think a lot alike I’m sure. Former U.S. Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards has admitted to having had an extramarital affair with a woman he met in a New York City bar in 2006, ABC News reported on Friday.

Okay, now I don’t really give a flying foxtrot uniform charlie kilo about John Edwards. But ABCNNBBCBS is running this all over the place like it is the hot story of the year.

Folks, you are being CONDITIZED!

Back in early 2001, when the US Government was already informing other governments of plans to invade Afghanistan in October 2001, the corporate media had turned the sordid tale of Gary Condit and Chandra Levy into the one and only story for the TV sets of America. There were very few reports of the war being planned for Afghanistan, so when the invasion actually happened, right after the convenient events of 9-11 angered America into a war-fever, it was a surprise to nobody bu the American people.

Well, here we are again. The TV sets are tossing John Edwards’ love-child right into our faces non-stop, with only the briefest of pauses to shout “RUSSIA INVADES!” so it doesn’t look like they are hiding anything from you.

But think. The fact that John Edwards knocked up his mistress is not something that actually affects your life in any material way. It’s tabloid scandal at best, yet to ABCNNBBCBS, this is the important news to shove at you. But the outbreak of war gets barely an insert and a screen crawl, and those are actually lies! Russia did NOT invade. The initiating event was the shelling of a Russian installation, presumably by the Georgians, but in fact we really do not know.

But a real war with Russia does affect your life in very material ways. The US is already at economic death’s door from the existing wars. Once again we see Israel working to kick off a war they will expect our sons and daughters to clean up.

And the other side actually has nuclear and biological weapons of mass destruction, and faces an enemy they already know has the willingness to use such weapons unless preemptively attacked.

Sorry, the headline above was inaccurate.  The real story is only of another lowly human bean-head changing stories.

BTW;  I first heard the expression, ‘there is a log in my eye,’ in conversation around the campfire, when with some friends.   We were telling ‘fish stories’ I think.  It makes me laugh to this day when I see it in print, as those were good days and good times.

I looked at Bob Chapman’s article that you linked in your ment17 @ 17:28 pm on August 8, 2008.

It makes sense to me.  To put it simply, I see no good reason to permit shorting.  Owners of stock can sell into the market, and thus allow the market to establish a current price, which may or may not be a fair value.     I do not see the logic in permitting some firm, perhaps offshore in some other country, to sell that which it does not own, and thereby reducing the value to the shareholders who bought the shares with their savings.

Short selling allows one to receive cash for nothing but what appears to be a legal fraud, the selling of that which one does not own.  The fact that the shares are ‘borrowed’ from a dealer only complicates the issue.

Btw; I find it helpful when quotation marks are placed around words that are borrowed;  otherwise the words appear to be the poster’s.  The quotation marks let the reader know that the author is another.  And a short reference to that fact is also helpful.  I use the word, snip, to denote that the words quoted later are from an article.  Some would find it humourous to see a discussion that is encumbered by the misuse of borrowed words bemoan the misuse of borrowed stock.

Nice charts on the buck…..Maybe history won’t repeat….but I’d hate to bet the dollar going much higher based on your charts.
