Irish, he can’t do that.

This is being offered as a result of a class action suit against TransUnion. It also includes an option for possibly receiving cash back also. Not bad for a freebie but it must be done before Sept. 24, 2008. You register for it online and you will be notified afterwards on how to obtain your “freebies”.
But yes, gold is an (or maybe the) arbitrary store of wealth in the western and asian worlds, just as it was copper for the Aztecs, a rare sea shell for the Incas, and those great big stones for a pacific island. If we were starting out again today, it might be rhodium and platinum rather than gold and silver.
Fiat paper is a completely different story to gold, as I said in my 21:23 post.
Make up a sign that says ‘”Default” and go over by Ferett’s and pound it into the lawn in front of his house
They went back to the Hotel in Dangriga…Scarab picked up something on the plane and was sick for 5 days in Cancun….I stuffed him with dumplings and made him drink 3 bowls of the chicken broth…as Butters says,”he will be passing some good tidbits tonight”….
It was so strange to see him standing in the compound here when the last time I was with him AuGirl and Farmgal together we were in some town 30 miles from Canada in Washington St. it seems like a hundred years ago[Sept 07]
Found this in a Kiplinger’s magazine at a Doctor’s office. Couldn’t figure out how to get it online from a copy I made. Anyway, find it on the Kiplinger’s.com site.http://www.kiplinger.com/columns/ask/archive/2008/q0630.htm

are you saying gold is just an arbitrary store of wealth…which is no more medium of exchange than paper or digital money..?
There needs to be some way to measure and store wealth…and my point is…Paper can be created out of nothing…while gold needs to be found …extracted and minted…which rrequires a great deal of skill ingenuity and hard and dangerous work..
It has been accepted as a medium of exchange by all types of civilizations for centuries…not just those with Kings..
As you know every fiat currency ever used in history has ended up worthless…
If you dont believe in Gold as realMoney…what are you doing hanging around Gold Boards…?
Your argument is lame and I wont spend all nite debating the obvious….did you read that piece Fat Tony from james Turk ?
There is a message in there for you…from someone infinately wiser than I
Manipulation is only the result of illegal intervention by insider trading? Grandpa used to say ,”Hey son, leave it alone…two wrongs don’t make a right!”
Again, though , I think it comes down to definitions. Central banks leasing out gold knowing that it will be sold to take advantage of the interest arbitrage is manipulation to some, or free market forces to others.
p.s. I’m surprised that you classify me as the poor doctor. Surely contemplating that gold may be a fiat currency is pretty much outside the box for this site?
It was deemed money because it was scarce, and controllable.
What did the Aztecs use for money? Copper, because it was scarcer than gold. Gold was just an ornamental metal to the Aztecs.
