ment 17, could I have your help please to arbitrate some confusion involving
my optometrist and my wife. My optometrist says I am not color blind and I accept that, but my wife questions me on this. Assuming that my optometrist is correct, I think I can distinquish red from blue. In our household, like other Canadians, we think of the Conservative party as blue (see link below, where the words ‘Tory’ and ‘blue’ are used together in the traditional way). And we think of ‘red’ as more socialist, or even communist, as in the terms, ‘Red China’ or the ‘Red Army’ of the former USSR. Since the Conservative Party in Canada is viewed by some as being more like the Republicans than the Democrats, our color coding puts the Republicans as blue, and therefore the Democrats likely to be leaning just a bit more to the left to be towards the red end of the scale.
But here’s where the problem comes in our family. John King shows his interactive CNN map of the USA, with a big wide swath of red from the hurricane zone around Galveston all the way north to Bismarck, North Dakota and west-east from Arapahoe country in Colorado all the way east to the Mississipi. So I say to my wife, look at all the left-leaning socialist reds in those red states in the Great Plains region and all the blue conservatives along the west coast states and in the northeastern states. And I ask her if she thinks John King got the colors right. And she says to me, are you color blind?
So help me out here. Does the big swath of red states in the central flatlands of USA mean that this is where the most socialistic, the reddest, of citizens reside? I just cant figure this out [g]. Equiz.
Equiz- I just want to commend you for your even keel approach
and calm manners. Steady as she goes. I often would like to respond to your posts but since I have a full time job and a full time garden and a full time everything else I am unable to nurture these on-line relationships full time. You have my highest respect and if we get some spare time in the great NW then I/we will most certainly attempt to visit with y’all. Maybe we can split wood together eh? ![]()
puptent - thanks for that article
“The recent upward trend of the U.S. Dollaris a direct and temporary consequence of the collapse of the stock markets.”
Corresponds to what mooseshama posted and makes absolute sense.
Willie’s recent proclamation about another currency (backed by something) in the works seems a very real possibility. He claims to have inside info. not sure about his timing when he says it could be a matter of weeks. Although after the elections or the first of the year seems a real possibility. IMO
The only thing about the article that made me scratch my head was that the Euro could be somewhat of a safehaven.
Clearly though they think the USD and the GBP are finished.
I truly hope we don’t default on our obligations and obliterate the dollar in an overnight fashion. I’d really hope that the decline would be somewhat orderly - ten points a month would be OK.

how many antennas do you want hanging just above your bedroom? Just kidding but it does remind me how important lightening protection is for a Central American radio station. I’m workin’ on it. I’ll be asking you if you have a ground rod by your electrical entrance soon. OK ! time is up! time to start asking questions…Can you see the ground rod? how big is the wire that goes from the ground rod to your electrical panel? Do your neighbors have ground rods? Do they sell ground rods at the electrical supply store? Check it out. We need a few ground rods, 8 feet long copper coated steel rods 1/2 inch diameter is the accepted standard. If there is an electrical code in BZ then there must be a store somewhere that sells that stuff… I am confident there is, otherwise there wouldn’t be a single TV set or microwave that still worked after a few storms. So check it out, find out where to buy grounding equipment, circuit breakers, romex, …. but mainly ground rods. I still got to get with Chas’ but also look for ground wire, big 1/4 inch diameter or 3/16 diameter solid copper wire to connect to ground rods… hopefully at the same store where they sell the ground rods. Where is your electrical panel? At ground level or the second floor? Is there an electrical inspector for new construction that you can tap into for a mainline to electrical code and lightening protection information? I’m not so interested in code per se, but the experience of a grey-haired inspector is worth a lot. These are ALL important questions so don’t just answer the first one and ignore the remainders. Email when you get a chance.
PS bought nine 210 watt PV panels yesterday with retirement funds I pulled out a while back. I ain’t got a chance for an easy retirement but at least will have some paid-up-front electricity coming in for another 30-40 years not to mention all the pre-paid hot water I bought earlier this year.

Sickening to think how this leads back to Brown and England eh..Almost seems like Wall St will become a shell of it former “glory” and Canary wharf will be the new hub, hard to believe but both JPM and Goldman seem to be buffing up their presence in that part of the world..things that make you go hmmmm

Same here. I just don’t think my S&W Model29 with a box
of ammo and I would be able to fend off a SWAT team.
