Looking at my hole cards & reviewing:
The only way anyone can avoid mistakes is to simply do nothing. A mentor reminded me I would make many mistakes, just make sure they are legal and try to keep them small while watching others make the big one. - not an easy charge to carry out.
Indeed I made my fair share of mistakes including one that almost broke me when greed overcame my good judgement in my youth. (wrote about it in IMDB under Energy, last of thirteen short stories about Geologists) but in the big scheme of things I followed seasoned advice and simply immitated the successfull people which I observed very closely, in the fields of school, marrage, the oil patch, investments and gold & silver, and enjoying life in general.
In posting over ten years, I have spoken out as a “Dutch Uncle” and preached avoid being overly greedy, be diversified, pay attention to potential reward vs risk, proper cash flow management, patience, have long term goals, who some mistakenly insist on calling “buy and hold”, limited trading unless one is a recognized expert trader.
I had a theme that gold priced below $400 was giving it away and I backed the truck up numerous times at various $300 support and later resistance points down to $270. I bought SSRI at less than $2.00, AEM at $8.00 & $9.00, Goldcorp at $8.00 and added dozens of others. Some were great and some were duds which I culled out periodically. When they went up 100% I generally sold part and bought physical. I also early on recognized that like late 1979 and early 1980, to would be necessary to switch from PM stock holdings to physical gold and silver at some point. I came up with $600 as that point.
Sinclair came along and I subscribed to his sell 1/3 near the top rail and on May 9, 2006 I sold half, bought some physical since we were past my $600 /ounce target price to convert to physical. I wasn’t so smart in March 08. Yes I have lost a sizeable amount of gold stock paper profits but it is all very manageable.
I looked at my Gold reserves today and they are just as heavy and just as shinny as they ever were. I expect my Gold and silver to double and triple going forward and fully expect my gold stocks to have several 100% up surges in the forseeable future. I like my hold cards and my hand - deal the cards, life is still a fun, challenging game! Deadeye
PS. My wish is that everybody could be as lucky as I have been. A happy marrage has lasted fifty plus years, the oil has flowed and the Gold has shinned and most of all, my family is relatively healthy and there are four sharp grandsons to carry on and resist the Liberal politicians who are rapidly taking away our Liberty and Freedoms and changing the U.S. into a Socialist encampment.
