Water

I have heard the often-repeated tale that Distilled Water ‘leaches minerals out of the body’.  I have yet to see any proof or any reasonable documentation of this old wives tale.  It makes absolutely no sense to me.   Pure water is the universal solvent.  The body needs it, and is composed mostly of it.  The body systems manage their own minerals and electrolytes, and waste products.   While true that spring or well water will provide some needed minerals, the body also gets these from food.  Drinking pure water will not neccessarily lead to a mineral deficiency.    I hate the taste of most mineral waters.   I also have a reverse osmosis filter on my sink for purified drinking water.

Distilled water is pure…. 0 ppm impurites.

R/O water from my filter measures 3-5 ppm (parts per million)

Honolulu tap water, lava rock aquifer… some of the best water around, with no chlorine or additives, measures  16-23 ppm at my tap…. and I can taste the minerals compared to the R/O filter.

For the record, I also take handfuls of vitamins, minerals, and food supplements daily.

Junior explorers a good buy?

Marc Faber Says Buy Gold Exploration Stocks

Celebrated contrarian investment advisor Dr. Marc Faber told Bloomberg television this weekend that he was buying gold exploration stocks as well as gold producers because prices were ridiculously cheap.

Dr. Faber wrote the book ‘Tomorrow’s Gold’ earlier in this decade and has long been a holder of physical gold as a hedge against inflation and a meltdown in the global financial system. But he has previously not recommended buying exploration stocks, arguing that they could fall in price and that many companies could go out of business.

Given the huge slump in the values of gold exploration stocks over the summer he has, once again, been proven correct. However, the Swiss born investment guru is now preaching with all the enthusiasm of a convert to the cause.

Explorers going cheap

He has good reason, of course. Gold exploration stocks are leveraged to the gold price. Last week Citigroup - which Dr. Faber says should have been left to go bankrupt and not bailed out by the US government in a $306 billion deal last week - said gold may go to $2,000 an ounce in 2009.

Granted the link between the gold price and exploration stocks - remember the latter own the rights to potential future gold field development rights or claims - then such a price hike would mean an even bigger increase in the value of exploration stocks. That these stocks have been beaten down to almost nothing in the recent stock market crash just makes them a better buy.

Dr. Faber is the first major commentator to make this call - and it comes against the worst performance in this sector in 40 years. Of course, for a contrarian there could not be a better buy indicator. Dr. Faber is about to score another big hit for his investment record. If he was a hunter he would need a castle to house all his trophies by now!

I appreciate the info you related to me. I requested that 24 kit from the site you suggested. I guess a more definitive answer is the best. My mate has had a problem with fibrocystic breast issues for some time and perhaps this approach will help.  Thank you.

Water

OK. Somebody burst my bubble. We use only water from a reverse osmosis filtering system, even for cooking. Is it safe?

Well, this health stuff is even more complicated than PMs!  Before deciding to drink only distilled water, read up on water.  There is evidence that distilled water will leach minerals from your body over the long term.  I like good well water or spring water.  Avoid the polyethylene bottles if you can.  There’s a lot to learn every which way you look…  good luck!

Although your questions were addressed to Israeli, I hope you don’t mind if I jump in.

For five years I’ve been a member of an online breast cancer group, Amazons.  Three years ago was when the group became active with iodine, that’s when the info and interest came together.  Many of the women in the group took iodine loading tests then.  This test is mentioned at the http://breastcancerchoices.org/ web site.  Amazons encourage new group members to take a loading test as well, as they consider iodine levels to be a very important issue and the supplementation of iodine to be a core part of their protocol.  The test, although not yet proven to be accurate, supposedly gives an idea of whether or not a person is deficient in iodine.  This is determined by how much of a given ingested amount of iodine is excreted in a 24 hour period.  The amount excreted provides a starting point of how much to supplement, in the form of Lugols or Iodoral.  Re-testing is done to monitor any changes.  There are other factors, so it’s best not to just ‘do your own thing’ and start taking iodine because too much can be as problematic as too little.

This loading test is considered far more accurate than painting a patch of skin with iodine and seeing how long it takes to be absorbed. Also, oral supplementation is more controllable than can be achieved topically.

Along with the loading test and taking supplemental iodine if deficient, many or most of the women in the group also paint their breasts with iodine on a regular basis.  This helps get absorbtion where it counts, to supplement what’s taken orally.

Unfortunately, Amazons does not archive posts.  They are against that for some reason.  I have archived many of what I consider to be important posts, including many posts having to do with iodine.  It’s a huge file and it’s interesting to chart the progression.  There is at least one other web group devoted specifically to iodine.  I’m a member but not active, so I haven’t read the list in a while.  Thankfully all the posts of that group stay on the web, so a newcomer can read the history and background.  I’ll dig that group name up for you if you’d like.  There’s a lot more info I’m willing to share with anyone who’s interested.  It’s not a simple, straightforward cause & effect and there are detoxing side effects that come with iodine supplementation.
