Hey Fully
Saw your post about Creamer. Interesting. No doubt gold stock shorts were one of the best plays of the year. Glad to see his boy cover.
Hopefully a sign of things to come.

Figure a way to get in contact with the Obama Kid while he is in Hawaii..I bet you did already…
Yup I sure did pardner…Pomonna has 700 people Dangriga 3,500 total space of Stann Creek is equal to all of Cook county Il. which has ahhh 7 million bodies in it…the guy that quieted up my 350 van frame …he a used an old tire and I have an antena made out of a twisted wire that looks sort of machine made….replaced brakes in 30 minutes then cooked farmgal and I some[about 32 oz.of cocconut oil] in about 3 hours of screwin around with a little fire…bad part is I gave him some foodstuffs I spirited across the border ..some of which may or may not be available anymore…but I also told him some dirty jokes..and I can keep them coming ..depression or not…Haaaaa…We got cocconuts chaune nuts cashew nuts all kinds of nuts..hell I keep lookin for Jimmy Carter to turn the corner any minute..but we have oil oil oil and more oil..and lobster ,red snapper…and Moe Baxter .. now how did he get in there as a commodity…well same way Barrick got in the HUI..mistake..
I bought 20 pounds of good beef hotdogs/with some pork in them..peppers we got peppers celery salt onions down there…I think with a little ommph I could set up a Hummingbird Red Hot stand that would knock their heads off….3.00 bz. for a Chicago Red Hot…..they are starting a new soccer leauge that uses the Pomonna field as home field…good place to test market them……now if AuGirl would only agree to that saran wrap deal the initial marketing push would be shortened to about 10 minutes…one important issue though…”No Credit to Coombs “Haaaaa
Ahh the pier…I make a push on that as soon as someone we all love to distrust is hancuffed a little more…
i thought the reason you went to belize was to shorten the fall when the bust came. the closer to subsistence, the less you can fall. some of the geezers around here said we would be back to kerosene lamps and farming with horses. i had to remind them that the technology doesn’t disappear when the bust comes. i also reminded them that we have enough oil wells around here that we could do some very basic refining locally.
you might consider obtaining a horse, just in case.{G}
any word on the pier?
jarvis said hi.
rno
If T bonds go poof..money runs to dow and gold.maybe we get 11,000 in Dow by April..but I bet we get an 8 to one ratio gold to Dow..soo not too bad..then look out below in Dow and Gold ratio keeps moving down to say 2 or 1 to 1..with Dow at 5000 again not too bad..scary deal is that all this is compressed into 8 months..And I have to say that I just can’t figure silver ..it is a complex issue with limited supply but that stupid industrial overtone deal.attatched to it……but my gut tells me to get more ..because whatever the story, however it is spun..silver will come out shining…and it could get amazing…
Al I want for Christmas is a Bunker Hunt a Bunker Hunt oh a Bunker Hunt…and no no changes of the Rules!
That last post was one of the best thought out pieces of information I have ever read. ….and in a very tough area of expertise too boot….one hell of a job in putting it on paper…

Vesuvius? Gata teach you some Hawaiian. Say ‘KILAUEA’.(kee-lahw-eh?-uh)
Just imagine the warmth. I’ll be about 30 miles north of here.
That’s a good question which has been on my mind for a long time, especially since we are a mobile pair of bugs and don’t own land.
The answer is varied. The lower the present standard of living, as measured by access to modern technology and surplus income etc, then the more likely is the local economy to be self-sufficient. For example, both the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu produce excellent fresh food in abundance. But they can’t fix generators or outboards and would quickly lose any modern technology they have. They’d survive though. On the other hand, the towns and cities import a lot of stuff, and there are lots of people living there often in poor conditions. At least the locals there tend to have roots which can take them back to the country. I worry about the expat communities. They have NO survival skills, no food or local roots, and would be at the mercy of locals if their big Uncle Sam or Uncle OZ suffered a decline in power or prestige. Lots of expats have invested their retirement in “an island paradise”, and I fear they will fly back where they came from with nothing.
By contrast Pohnpei, where we are now, has lots of cars, even traffic jams, very little locally grown food and a high dependence on imported, mostly American junk and junk food. Such places are in for a shock. The level of technology is higher on the surface and has become the cultural norm for many, but in my view is not sustainable. The path back to sustainable living and locally produced food etc will be very rough. For example, lots of people in the country have pigs. But the pigs are fed sacks of food imported from the US. No-one can organize themselves to collect eggs or farm the chickens. Most meats, including chicken and eggs, are imported from the US. There are almost no local veggies and not much local fruit for sale.
One thinks immediately, well, at least they can catch fish. But that answer is suspect too. There really are less fish to catch. The size and efficiency of modern fish-boats has to be seen to be believed, and they often leave nothing swimming behind them. The reefs are beginning to be over-fished, and in some places the lagoons are polluted by too much logging, though to be honest that is not as bad as I had been told, and will probably recover fast when the logging stops. The Philippines, where are heading in due course, has such a high density of people that the reefs are seriously over-fished.
There has been a heavy reliance on tourism, especially lately. What happens when the hotels are empty? This affects even the remote areas. For example, Marovo lagoon in the Solomons has wood carvers of absolutely stunning ability, their work is breath-taking. But where are the customers? Even now there aren’t enough to feed all the carver. The competition between them has led to the rapid increase in quality, but where do they go next to make money?
The answer to your question, then, is really the same as the answer to the same question in Canada. The closer you are to a traditional farm economy, the more likely are you to survive well. The cities and towns will suffer badly. For someone like me, the key question is, how long will my pretty paper be accepted for food? And later, how skilled am I at trading technological know-how for food? Can I fix a broken generator in exchange for veggies? Often the answer is often yes, but I still need some industrial supplies which will get harder to find. And behind that lies the security question. In a collapsing economy, where the rot seems to have started in Whiteman’s land, why would the locals regard me as anything other than a nuisance at best or prey at worst? In Marovo for example, what use am I if I don’t buy carvings?
In the Solomons, Gizo is the second city/town. We went there to check out with Customs and immigration etc (very good, easy and agreeable) and to stock up. It was very hard for Mrs Lifeboat to find food worth buying to keep our supplies up, and I bought virtually all the diesel fuel in town. I left just a few litres behind. The next ship was not due for some weeks. This is a picture which will become common.
Incidentally, the Solomons islands have quite a lot of alluvial gold. There is a local awareness of the long-term value of gold and the beginnings of a local gold smelting industry. The country is quite corrupt though, and I wonder how well this industry will do when the politicians are looking around for someone else to fleece. I suspect the black market will thrive, but this will be a place for outsiders to tread with care.
Enough. We’re off ashore.
- Happy Christmas to all Tenters.
you have received for your partner to have a quick and successful recovery. Twenty-five years ago my wife too had worrying eye operations, but it all worked out well in the end.
Regarding your Equisetum in the snow question, dont worry about Equisetum, which can endure just about anything. Note the heading at the top of this link, where there is reference to Equisetum as being a hooligan. Hooligan sounds like an Irish word to me, but I havent yet looked up the ethnic origin of this interesting word. I dont mind if Equisetum is cast as a hooligan, because Equisetum is a survivor, often under trying conditions. Cheers. Equiz.
